Storm Dennis seems to have largely passed us by. Watching reports on
the TV news, we have got off incredibly lightly. You have to feel so sorry for people
whose homes are flooded and they lose everything.
The wind was intermittent although blowing strongly at times. While it
did occasionally rain heavily, it was mainly light and drizzly. Having said
that, the waterlogged towpath is now a quagmire, the River Weaver has burst its
banks, flooding the neighbouring fields again and the bridge on the farm track
over the river that we walked over when visiting Church Minshull on Thursday,
is now marooned in the middle of a lake.
We are having problems with the stove chimney with water trickling
down the outside of the flue pipe and dripping from the fire-proof board in the
roof when it rains. For the life of us, we cannot work out where this is coming
from, the roof fixings of the chimney are all well sealed, but the flue will
probably have to be taken apart in the summer and investigated.
We had wanted Sunday lunch in the Badger but the weather deterred us. After
a clean through of the boat, we had Sunday lunch on board followed by a quiet afternoon.
Where are you Bill? Give me a ring.
