A Happy Birthday to our Aaron who is 35 today.

We had intended moving today but it had rain almost continuously during the night and rained, on and off all day, until 3pm, so we stayed put. It was a miserable day outside.

Unusually for us, we watched a film on TV in the morning. Harvey was clipped afterwards, a job neither of the three of us particularly enjoys, and Harvey positively hates. Afterwards, he limped his way into his bed in our bedroom, out of our way, and we didn’t see much of him for the rest of the day.

Once the rain cleared, I finished the coal shelf and fitted the new matting at the back end, while Brenda attempted, unsuccessfully, to set-up the EE internet package, losing all our internet access and becoming extremely frustrated in the process.

The mosaic tiling has been fitted behind the stove. It is still to be grouted but looks so good. We had been putting this off because the stove installation does not comply with regulations, but just decided to go ahead anyway. We long ago decided to put the negativity of the build of Bridge Street behind us.

In the evening we sat in the front cratch and had fun putting up all the new battery operated lights. We spend a fair bit of time up there in the evenings and the lights would lift anybody’s spirits, they are such fun.

All day we had been hearing the whistles of the trains of the Churnet Valley Railway in the distance, both diesel and steam.

Weather: a reasonable evening, but rain all day.

  1. This weather is miserable, lovely to hear those train whistles in the distance.
Can't believe how close you are getting to Cheshire again now!

    1. We are at Froghall just now, head of Caldon Canal and end of Churnet Vallaey Railway.
Leave here today and then heading for Middlewich.
Locks are closing between Kidsgrove and Wheelock and at Rumps Lock by British Salt works on 4th Nov so we have to be passed them by then
