Brenda had a very nice reply from the NMC this morning, the gist of which was:

Dear Brenda Marie,

On behalf of the NMC, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for wholeheartedly for your service to your profession.

Your career as a registered professional has made a big difference to the lives of others and we hope you feel proud of the important contribution you have made.

………………………………………………………

Thank you once again for all your hard work and commitment. We wish you all the best for your retirement.

More photos were sorted out and put into albums and the poles were given another coat of black and cream paint. Brenda gave the port side gunwhales a coat of blackening. This job had been long overdue and the boat was looking quite grubby because of it.

We walked up to the chandlery and, amongst other things, we bought 30m of 12mm rope as I was determined to learn how to make wrap-around fenders. At the moment, the chandlery is a lifeline to a lot of people and Susan provides a great service. Just before the Corona lock-down, BJ developed what turned out to be a bad chest infection but neither of them had been willing to take the chance and so Susan has been living on one of their hire boats ever since. She is also working a second job because of the down turn in their business.

12mm rope was bought as the books we have on knots all state this size for any fender making. I did manage to make a wrap-around fender tying continuous crowns but, made of 12mm rope scale-wise, it would not look out of place on an ocean going liner. Brenda cleaned one of the rugs using a Carpet Stain Remover from B&M’s and it has done a remarkable job.

We had a lovely BBQ in the evening that was the envy of the people walking past.
