In the aftermath of Storm Ciara, it was a very cold day and the wind
was blowing very strongly. So we stayed put, enjoying being out of town, albeit
by just a few hundred yards and still close to shops.
We did a sizeable shop in Morrisons, much closer on this side of the
town, and I visited the Turkish barbers, an experience and a treat.
Everywhere we travel, we see major new housing building in progress.
In the heart of Middlewich, off the main Wheelock Street is a very sizeable
piece of ground, previously owned by Tesco, bought at extravagant prices. The
site is now being cleared and the surviving properties revealed, prior to their
demolition, with a lot of local interest. McCarthy & Stone are building a
retirement apartment complex. It will be interesting to see the results when we
next visit.
The afternoon was spent quietly, with Brenda reading and myself
computering, continuing with family history.
For our dinner we had a four course fish-fest. Prawns and avocado, a
1970’s speciality. You knew you had made it when you could afford a prawn
cocktail in a restaurant. Flash fried whole sprats and anchovies, hake fillet
with pea shoots, radish and spring onion and profiterole and black cherry
trifles. Indulgence.
