Brenda had a well-earned lay-in, with boiled eggs and soldiers in bed, while I went for a walk once the overnight rain had cleared. First up to Hazelhurst Junction passing under the aqueduct, then along the Leek Branch passing over the aqueduct, crossing over the disused railway line bridge and picking up a lane leading back to the Holly Bush Inn and the boat.

The mooring outside the pub was a lovely setting but it was a 24hourmooringand we felt a little awkward, peering through the windows of the terraced housing directly across the towpath, so we moved on.

Travelling just a mile at no more than tick-over, enjoying this beautiful Staffordshire countryside. One couple spoken to, walking on the towpath, said that every day they feel privileged living in such a place. There was a partly fallen tree in the canal on the way down that looked as though it was blocking one half of the water way, so the boat was steered close to the towpath to miss it. However, there were submerged branches below the water right across the canal that almost brought us to a sudden stop and the boat had to be powered passed.

Once moored, Brenda connected the EE internet so we now have unlimited connection, dependent on the signal for £34 per month. This for two computers, the TV and two phones. We both had showers and set too preparing a Sunday roast, along with front cratch time and a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Weather: rain overnight and in the morning. A lovely afternoon and evening with a clear moonlight night.
