Temperatures during the night fell to -8˚. With having a guest on board the door from the saloon had been shut overnight for privacy but this meant no heating in the bedroom and it was very cold when we woke with ice and frost actually on the inside of the windows. Getting dressed was like being a kid when we had only an open fire downstairs in the lounge in the house I grew up in. You took your clothes into the bed with you to warm them up before putting them on.

Aaron left us shortly after breakfast, he was worried about the state of the roads. This again, left us feeling flat and Brenda tearful and upset.

We had a day of not doing a lot. We had intended going into Coventry Basin for a few days as we have things to attend to that can only be done in a large town or city. However, the canal was badly frozen all day, about ¾” thick so we couldn’t move anyway.

Weather: icy cold. Canal frozen all day.
